Conducting a pavement structural assessment in the northern region of Brazil comes with unique geographic logistics. Because there are no bridges spanning the main body of the Amazon River, getting equipment to the region’s isolated road network requires moving off the tarmac and onto the water.
To get our iPAVe technology to its next destination, the ARRB Systems Brazil team coordinated the transport of the vehicle across the river using a local ferry.
A Coordinated Logistical Effort
While it looks like a simple river crossing, moving a heavy vehicle across a waterway of this scale requires careful planning. The deployment relied on close coordination across border teams, transport staff, and river logistics to ensure everything went smoothly.
The process involved:
- Route checks and multi-mode transport planning.
- Real-time coordination around local weather conditions and tides.
- Managing timing with local customs and transport authorities like DNIT.
Thanks to the planning of our ground crew and local transport partners, the crossing was completed safely.
Automated Data Collection Anywhere
This project highlights the operational flexibility required to deliver continuous, high-speed automated data collection to varying environments. With the ferry crossing behind it, the truck is back on the road, collecting the functional and structural data needed to help manage local infrastructure networks.
