Kampala, Uganda – ARRB Systems was proud to contribute to the 11th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 9th Africa Engineering Conference. The influential event brought together a diverse group of leaders—from government ministers and engineering bodies to young professionals—all united by a commitment to driving sustainable development across the continent through innovation.

Representing ARRB Systems, Sphe Mkhabela delivered a compelling paper titled: “21st Century Full Spectrum Automated Road Condition Assessment – An Evolution from Opinion to Factual State of the Art.” Her presentation underscored the critical need for objective, data-driven approaches to infrastructure management, moving beyond subjective assessments to factual, state-of-the-art road intelligence. Business Development Manager Marc Knowle also attended the conference, supporting our representation and engaging with key industry leaders. This aligns perfectly with the conference’s strong themes of engineering innovation for Africa’s future and sustainability.

The conference served as an inspiring platform for collaboration, emphasising the vital role technology and engineering play in addressing Africa’s unique development challenges. Senior Ugandan leaders, including the Speaker of Parliament and Ministers of Works, Disaster Preparedness, and Science & Innovation, opened the event, setting a clear agenda for local innovation and self-sufficiency. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Information, Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza’s powerful message to “Engineer the Future, do not import it” resonated deeply throughout the week, highlighting the importance of developing and applying local solutions.

ARRB Systems’ participation showcased our dedication to empowering African nations with the tools to build and maintain their road networks efficiently and sustainably. By providing advanced solutions for automated road condition assessment, we enable partners across the continent to make smarter, more informed decisions, extending pavement life, reducing maintenance costs, and ultimately enhancing safety for all road users.

The week was rich with networking opportunities, fostering invaluable connections with engineering leaders, policymakers, and the next generation of African engineers. ARRB Systems is committed to continuing its collaboration with partners across Africa, contributing our expertise to engineer a resilient and prosperous future for the continent.
