ARRB Systems participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport Indaba at the Durban ICC on 2 October 2026, showcasing our road assessment technologies and contributing to discussions on infrastructure management and investment.

Our Principal Engineer, Herman Visser, joined the Smart Operations, Asset Intelligence & Funding panel, highlighting the importance of reliable, up-to-date data in helping road authorities assess conditions, prioritise maintenance and make informed infrastructure decisions. He also discussed the risks of relying on incomplete or outdated information.

The exhibition featured our iPAVe and iSAVe vehicles, giving delegates the opportunity to explore our road data collection capabilities and engage with our team. The iPAVe collects structural and surface pavement condition data, while the iSAVe supports road safety assessment, including skid resistance measurement. Together, they demonstrate how reliable road data can support better infrastructure decisions.

Our approach to data quality was another important theme. Equipment maintenance, calibration, validation and quality assurance all play a role in producing accurate and repeatable measurements.

A highlight of the event was the visit by Mr Siboniso Armstrong Duma, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, to the ARRB Systems booth.

During the visit, the team showcased the capabilities of the iPAVe and iSAVe platforms and discussed the role of pavement intelligence, road safety data and asset management in supporting informed infrastructure decisions.

The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate how advanced road assessment technologies can assist road authorities in understanding network condition, prioritising maintenance and supporting long-term infrastructure planning.

We were also pleased to welcome learners from Sukuma Comprehensive High School in Pietermaritzburg. The team introduced them to our technology, including demonstrations of the iPAVe and iSAVe, and explained how engineering and data collection contribute to road condition assessment and safety. The visit offered a practical look at how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are applied in the transport sector.

Our participation at the Indaba reinforced a central message: reliable data, supported by the right technology and expertise, helps road authorities make better-informed decisions about their networks.
