At the 7th Road Maintenance Forum (RMF) 2026, ARRB Systems’ Shaun Moodley presented From Data to Action: Smarter Data Solutions for Smarter Road Maintenance, exploring how road authorities can transform pavement data into informed maintenance decisions.
A key message from the presentation was simple: while roads often deteriorate gradually, the cost of repairing them increases rapidly when maintenance is delayed. Incomplete or infrequent data can underestimate deterioration, resulting in missed maintenance opportunities, escalating lifecycle costs and increased road safety risks.
The presentation highlighted the importance of continuous pavement condition data and integrated road safety information to support better maintenance planning, asset management and investment decisions. By identifying issues earlier, road agencies can intervene at the right time, preserve asset value and improve network performance.
Shaun also shared how ARRB Systems’ pavement intelligence solutions, including iPAVe technology, help agencies collect comprehensive network-scale data at traffic speed, providing the insights needed to prioritise maintenance, optimise budgets and improve road safety outcomes.
Through practical examples and cost-benefit analysis, the presentation demonstrated that the greatest value lies not in collecting more data, but in converting data into actionable maintenance programmes that reduce whole-of-life costs and support safer, more resilient road networks.
